Underwater Confrontation
The story is dramatic: a pod of orcas about to pounce on a stellar sea lion who has nothing left to do but try to hide in some stringy kelp. Except one of the orcas is Kwakiutl.
That's just the start. As I worked on this drawing, the protagonists eventually transformed into background for my ongoing exploration of water in all its forms. The surface from below, the light streaming through in a column, the transparency of the three dimensional world, the objects without ground, are the constants that continue to hold my attention.
