the mosquito in her clinic
I once met a man in the Mexican jungle near San Blas, who demonstrated how the power of his own mind made his body either attractive to the mosquitos or not. He was the only one of us who dared to sleep outside in a hammock. I can't say for sure what was involved in this business, although I sometimes wonder just how much the mosquitos were complicit in this trick. That's the focus of this image, which was created to illustrate the story of the man and the mosquito as it appeared in my first book, The Man Who Talks to Whales (Sentient Publications).
